The Winery A family-owned winery in the heart of Rioja Alavesa, Bodegas Heredad de Baroja employs the perfect balance between meticulous fieldwork, traditional winemaking methods, and modern technology. With grapes from vines of more than 20 years in age, Bodegas Heredad de Baroja makes modern style wines from traditional Rioja grape varieties. Attention to viticultural and oenological controls throughout the entire winemaking process allow the Meruelo family to make world-class wines, extracting new and unexpected nuances from some of Spain’s most established varieties.

About the Region Located in the South of the Basque Country, Rioja Alavesa borders the River Ebro and is protected by the southern slopes of the Cantabria mountain range. The natural scenery, a smattering of stunning yellow wildflowers, rocky mountain tops, and bright green vegetation offers some of Spain’s most colorful and picturesque views. A privileged micro-climate, Rioja Alavesa is known for lighter-styled, livelier, more aromatic wines.

Tasting Notes / Press “The 2008 Crianza has a lifted mulberry, sloe and bay leaf scented bouquet with a dash of white pepper. The palate is medium-bodied with succulent tannins on the entry. It is very well-balanced with a rounded, sensual finish that offers touches of pepper and burnt toast. This is a very fine Crianza. Drink now-2018.” 91 Points – Neal Martin, The Wine Advocate
