Red Blend is a collaboration with Saxenburg, located in the Polkadraai Hills region of Stellenbosch (more southerly vineyard sites, with a beautiful view over False Bay). Lindile and I worked alongside their winemaker Dirk van Zyl to create this bold, juicy, textured number - a barrel selection of Shiraz, Pinotage and Malbec, each vinified separately, and then blended together to showcase the perfect expression for a frosty Eastern Seaboard winter's evening. The Shiraz vines are well-established on the property, and are one of the Estate's main claims to fame (we just took the chonkiest, juiciest barrels as we wanted something bold and boisterous); the pinotage was made in more of a semi-carbonic style, so this pops the fruit character and adds a great line of acidity; and the Malbec is actually an old bushvine block that usually gets blended into other wines they make
